Our Research Justification (Draft 1)

  1. Framing our research topic
Our chosen area of research is “The relationship between humans and stray dogs”. We have chosen this topic as many dogs are left on the streets by irresponsible owners. Dogs are said to be man’s best friend. However, everyone likes different kind of dogs. How about stray dogs? Are they still man’s best friend or are they just discarded creatures?
Dog owners might think that they are still Man’s best friend, but does our actions show that? In our opinion, no. People tend to treat cute animals well, but for those which are to their dislike, they often abuse them. However, now dogs are adopted by owners that find them cute, then discard them when they feel like it or when the dogs are old, sick, or too big for their liking. They have no sense of responsibility or conscience.

  1. Reasons for choice of topic
a) We have chosen this topic to understand the hearts of those who abandon their dogs on the streets.
b) We would like to reduce the number of cases of abandoned dogs on the streets. Some dogs may even get attacked by other dogs, or may get infected eyes. If they have wounds, they might be attacked by maggots.

  1. Feasibility of the research
There is a need for our research ,as more the number of abandoned dogs have increased over the years, resulting in a shortage in space in SPCA. As a result of their refusal to adopt them, they are put to sleep after a certain time in SPCA.

  1. Manageability of the research
The timeline for the different components of the project will be decided later based on the situation then. But overall, the project will be done as quickly and carefully as we can, trying our best not to go out of point and staying as close to the topic as possible.
This research provides sufficient opportunity for group work as we will need to discuss a lot of matters regarding the project, for example who will be assigned to do what component of the project and we will have to work together.
We do anticipate some difficulties along the way, such as poor communication among the group members and lack of interviewees. We intend to cope with these difficulties by trying to ask our parents to introduce us their colleagues who own dogs to  let us interview them.

  1. Accessibility of the information required
We will go to animal shelters’ websites to look up for information of abandoned dogs, rescued dogs  and dogs up for adoption.
